ABOUT

Making complicated work simple is the job.

Girum Technologies builds business software in Addis Ababa, for Ethiopian businesses that still run on paper. We start with businesses we know from the inside.

WHY WE EXIST

The software that exists was not built for here.

Most business software assumes a steady connection, an office full of computers, and everyone working in English. An Ethiopian garment factory has none of those things, and it still has payroll to run on Friday.

So the choice for most owners is a foreign system that does not fit, or a notebook. We build the third option — software that assumes the connection will drop, that works in Amharic because that is what the supervisor reads, and that counts money to the santim because somebody's wage depends on it.

HOW WE WORK

Beside the people using it.

We build in the business, not for it

GarmentFlow was written inside a working factory while people were doing their jobs. Every screen answers a problem somebody actually had that week.

We question before we code

Nothing gets built from an assumption. We ask until we understand the work, and sometimes the answer is that software is not what you need.

Money maths is tested, not trusted

Payroll calculations are written as pure functions with a test suite behind them. Nothing that touches a wage ships on the strength of looking right.

Security is a gate, not a feature

Before anything goes live we audit who can see what, across every table. A full audit of GarmentFlow closed five real holes before a single outside customer touched it.

Backups are tested restores

Every night the database is dumped, encrypted, verified that it can actually be decrypted, and stored off-site. An untested backup is a guess.

New features arrive switched off

Anything non-essential ships optional. Your system does not get more complicated because somebody else asked for something.

FOUNDER

Girum writes the software himself. GarmentFlow was built inside a working garment factory in Addis Ababa, beside the people who use it every day — and he is still the person who answers when you call.
